Presenting an ad for Jose Cuervo's new Limited Edition bottles, an animated spot in which the bottles are forged with fire and metal by a shadowy, hooded blacksmith.
The concept designs for the blacksmith and his dark, tomblike workshop were created by myself and fellow Elastic artist Henry de Leon. In keeping somewhat in the style of our previous Jose Cuervo Cinge ad featuring an angry scorpion, we wanted the textures to be very sketchy and hand-drawn, and we felt it should be quite dark and monochromatic except for the glowing metal bottle and the roaring fire. That way the shadows could be used to postpone the reveal of the blacksmith's skeletal face until nearly the end.
Also a few hidden easter eggs:
- The mustache and markings on the blacksmith's face mirror the one on the bottle's label.
- In the slow trucking shot from the dark hallway, looking in on the workshop, the Jose Cuervo official crest is just barely visible on the near wall.
- The number "1795" is briefly seen embossed on the hammer, which is the founding date of Jose Cuervo.
